লেখক পরিচিতি : Sisir Kumar Das (1936–2003) was an eminent Indian literary scholar, comparatist, poet, playwright, translator, and linguist. He is best remembered for his monumental three-volume work, A History of Indian Literature, which made a ground-breaking contribution to the study of Indian literary traditions through its multilingual and integrative framework. Das played a pioneering role in the development of Comparative Literature in India. He consistently advocated a holistic approach to literary historiography. He also served as the editor of the multi-volume English Writings of Rabindranath Tagore.

An alumnus of Presidency College and the University of Calcutta, Das subsequently taught at the School of Oriental and African Studies. London, and later at the University of Delhi, where he held the Tagore Professorship from 1980 to 2001. A two-time recipient of the 'Rabindra Puraskar' (1976 and 1987), he translated ancient Greek literature into Bengali. He devoted considerable scholarly attention to Bhakti literature and culture. His collection of plays, Aloukik Sanglap, imaginatively stages dialogues among historical and mythological figures such as Kalidasa, Aristotle, Parashuram and Orestes.
